In addition, the following important things related to renewing driving licenses should be noted by vehicle owners:

1. Expired Driving License

Vehicle owners can choose to renew their driving licenses for a minimum period of one year or a maximum of five years. If the car or motorcycle license has expired and has not been renewed within three years, the vehicle owner will need to retake the driving test.

Expired P License

You can renew your expired P license within one year from the last expiration date. If your P license has been expired for more than a year, you can submit an appeal to the Director-General of the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

Expired L License

For the L license, it needs to be renewed every three or six months during the training period. However, it cannot exceed a total of two years from the date the L license was issued. If it exceeds this period, the candidate must start the entire process of obtaining the L license from the beginning.

If the driving license has expired beyond the specified period, you need to follow the procedures below:

  • Make an appeal to the Director General of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) stating the reasons for the expired license;
  • If the application is approved, you will be exempted from attending the KPP 1 course, the law test, KPP 2 and QTI. However, you will still need to take the JPJ part 2 practical test (hill climbing, parallel parking, and three-point turn) and part 3 (road test);
  • If the application is not approved, you will need to repeat the entire process of obtaining a driving license from the beginning.
